A machine translation is a sub-field of computicional linguistics that investigates the use of the computer software to translate text from one natural language to another.

A machine aided translation, by contrast, happens when translation is performed by a human and the computer offers supporting tools.

A content management system (CMS) is a software system used for content management. This includes computer files, images, media, audio files, electronic documents and web content. The idea behind a CMS is to make these files avalaible inter- office, as well as over the web. A content management sytem would most often be used as archival as well. For example many companies uses a CMS to store files in a non-propietary form.

A translation multilingual is a tool for automatic or computed assisted translation.

Nowadays, we are constantly doing translations from one language to other. The world of technology provide us these tools for our comfort.Translators are very useful, although some of them have their limitations, they can resolve some general doubts. In my opinion translators are a complement to human work.

Recent research in Machine Translation (MT) has focused on data-driven systems. Such systems are self-customizing in the sense they can learn the tranlations of terminology and even stylistic phrasing from already translated materials. Microsoft researchs MT (MSR-MT) is such a data-driven system, and it has been customized to transalte Microsoft technical materials through the automatic proccessing of hundred of thousand of sentences from Microsoft product documentation and support articles, togheter with their corresponding translations.

The Framework for Machine Translation evaluation in ISLE is an attemp to organize the various methods that they are used to evaluated MT systems, and relate them the purpose and context of the systems. Therefore FEMTI is made of two interrelated classifications or taxonomies.

The first classification enables evaluators to define an intended contex of use for the MT system to evaluate. Each feature is then linked to relevant quality characteristics. And the second one list the possible characteristics of an MT system, along with the metrics that were proposed to measure them.

International meetings on computional linguistics

I’m going to write about internacional meetings on computional linguistics. Here are some examples:

Human language technology conferences: The annual conference of the North American chapter of the association for computional linguistics (NAACL-HLT 2007) will be held in Rochester,NY, April 22-27, 2007. Here we can read the summary schedule.

Association for computacional Linguistics 2007: “The focus of the joint conference is learned models and data-driven systems concerning all aspects of human language. Both empirical and theoretical result are welcome.”The 3-day conference will be held in Prague during the 3 workshop days following the ACL 2007 main conference. Regristation and accomodation are kindly being handled by ACL 2007 “.

XXIII Congreso Anual de la Sociedad Española para el Procesamiento del Lenguaje Natural: This meeting will take places in Seville, Spain, September 10-12, 2007. SEPNL tries to spread the investigation and the development realized by the investigators in the field of the Processing of the Natural Language. The congress will cover principally the thematic following areas: Linguistic of corpus, grammars and formalisms for the morphologic and syntactic analysis, etc.

Reasons to study HLT

Human language technologies have grown in recent years. There is now a wide range of applications for HLT systems suchs as automatic transcription of meetings, traslations between languages, automatic answering of questions, text mining (e.g from the web) and acces to information through spoken human-computer dialogue. Systems which use HLT are now in everyday use, through technologies such as internet search engines and mobiles phones, and most majors international computer and telecoms companies now engage in HLT research and development. As a result, there is strong demand for graduates with the highly- specialised multi- disciplinary skills that are required in HLT, both as partitioners in the development of HLT applications and as researchers into the advanced capabilities required for next-generation HLT systems.

The masters courses in Human Language Technology has been carefully tailorated to meet this training need, by providing a balanced progamme of instruction across a range of relevant disciplines including speech processing, computacional linguistic/natural language processing and machine learning. The course aims to give the student a solid grounding in the principles underlying HLT as well as an understanding of a variety of current HLT applications. Hans Uszkoreit

Hans Uszkoreit is Professor of Computational Linguistic at Saarland University (Germany). At the same time he serves as Scientific director at the Germa Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) where he heads the DFKI Language Technology Lab. By cooptation he is also Proffesor of the Computer Science Departament.

Uszkoreit studied Linguistics and Computer Science at the technical University of Berlin and the University of Texas at Austin. In Austin he also worked as a research associate in a large machine traslation project at the Linguistics Research Center. From 1982 untill 1986, he worked as a computer scientist at the Artificial Intelligence Center of SRI International in Menlo Park , Ca. In 1986 he spent six months in Stuttgart on an IBM Research Fellowship at the Science Division of IBM in Germany. In December 1986 he returned to Stuttgart to work for IBM Germany as a project leader in the project LILOG (Linguistic and Logical Methods for the Understanding of German Texts) .

In 1988 Uszkoreit was appointed to a newly created chair of Computional Linguistics at Saarland University and started the Departament of Computational Linguistics and Phonetics. In 1989 he became the head of the newly founded Language Technology Lab at DFKI. He has been a co-founder and principal investigator of the Special Collaborative Research Divisition “Resource-Adaptive Cognitive Processes” of the DFG (German Science Foundation).

His current research interests are computer models of natural language understanding and production, advanced applications of language and knowlegde technologies such as semantic informations systems and cognitive foundations of language and knowlegde.

In this new semester I am going to write about the human languages technologies.This is the information that I have found about the definitions of human language technologies:

Human language technology consist of computacional linguistics (or Cl) and speech technology as its core but includes also many applications oriented aspescts of them. Language technology is closely connected to computer science and general linguistics. Wikipedia

Human language technology involves the analysis, mining and production of natural language. HTL has matured over the last decade to a point at wich robust and scaleable applications are possible in a variety of areas. Los ordenadores necesitan un lenguaje concreto para mostrar la información que luego leemos. Este tipo de lenguaje se llama lenguaje de marcado y se sustenta en estos cuatro elementos:

Metadato :es un dato que se ocupa de mantener un registro sobre el significado de un objeto informativo con el fin de comprender y admistridar dicho objeto.Los metadatos definen las relaciones entre los objetos,generando estructuras.Un ejemplo para explicar esto mejor podria ser el trabajo de los bibliotecarios.Ellos han creado metadatos que han tomado primeramente la forma de catalogos de libros evoluncionando hasta los catalogos en linea.

Metacontenido:es la información relativa al contenido de un documento como su titulo, autor, fecha de creación etc.Su función es realizar busqueda o gestionar un documento.

Contenido:Es el conjunto de una de las partes que conforma una unidad.

Dato:Es una representación simbolica de un atributo de una entidad.El dato no tine valor en sí mismo, pero se puede utilizar para efectuar cambios.Su empleo esta muy extendido en el ambito informatico.

Para varios campos de la informática como por ejemplo la recuperación de la información los metadatos son una forma muy importante de enfocarlo.

Penélope Cruz Sanchez más conocida como Penélope Cruz nació en Madrid el 28 de Abril de 1974.Aunque inicialmente fue bailarina se la conoce por su faceta cinematográfica.

Las primera peliculas en las que actuó fueron entre otras “Jamón jamón” y “Belle epoque” entre otras.En 1997 protagonizó el papel de Sofía pelicula dirigida por Javier Amenabar pero la pelicula a la que agradece su fama fue “Todo sobre mi madre” (1999) de Almodovar pelicula ganadora del Oscar a la mejor película extranjera.

En 2000 dió el salto a Hollywood y actuó junto a Matt Damon en “All the pretty horses “.La suigiente colaboración entre Penélope y Almovodar fuen en “Volver” (2006) pelicula que protagonizó y por la que ganó el premio a la mejor interpretación femenina en el Festival de Canes de 2006.

El 23 de Enero de 2007 gracias a Volver se convierte en la primera actriz española de la historia nominada a los premios Oscar 2006 a la mejor actriz.El 28 de Enero recibe su segundo Goya como mejor interpretación femenina por el papel de “Raimunda” en “Volver”.
